Father Yeghishe Ksachikyan Celebrates First Divine Liturgy on Palm Sunday | Western Diocese

The Rev. Fr. Yeghishe Ksachikyan celebrated his first Divine Liturgy as Pastor of St. James Armenian Church in Sacramento on March 29th, Palm Sunday.  Father Ksachikyan and his Yeretzgin Tatev were welcomed by the family of St. James Armenian Church. The celebrant priest was officially introduced to the congregation by Archpriest Fr. Arshag Khatchadourian who also read the congratulatory letter of the Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian addressed to the young priest.

In his letter, the Primate commended the dedicated spirit of Father Yeghishe. Born and raised in the Motherland, Father Yeghishe is filled with our ancestral Christian Faith. He is inspired and is led by the unshakable faith of our forefathers St. Gregory the Illuminator and St. Vartan the Warrior and His Companions.

He continued to serve the Armenian Apostolic Church after immigrating to the United States of America. He served at the Holy Altar of St. Peter Armenian Church of Van Nuys alongside Archpriest Fr. Shnork Demirjian. After his confirmation as a Priesthood-Candidate of the Western Diocese, he continued his education and pastoral training at St. Nersess Armenian Theological Seminary in New Rochelle, New York. After receiving ample pastoral experience in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, we ordained and consecrated him as a Priest on January 25, 2015 at St. Leon Armenian Cathedral. Father Yeghishe returned to St. Nersess Armenian Theological Seminary where he spent his 40-day period of seclusion. Today, he celebrates his first Divine Liturgy (Antranig Badarak) at St. James Armenian Church of Sacramento.

With his exceptional qualities as a young, promising, honorable, educated and talented priest, we rest assured that Father Yeghishe will be an outstanding Pastor of St. James Armenian Church of Sacramento.”

A group of pilgrims from Los Angeles, led by the Diocesan Ecumenical Officer Mr. Hayk Madoyan, travelled to Sacramento to show their solidarity and support of the newly ordained priest.

IMG_0582On Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 6:00 PM the Armenian Community of Sacramento gathered in the new building that the Parish Council bought recently for the religious and cultural needs of the Armenian Community.

At 6:20 PM His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Armenian Church of North America Western Diocese, was vested in his bishop vestments entered the large hall with his entourage, which included Fr. Asoghig Jamgochian, our Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Datev Harutyunian, the Parish Priest of St. Andrew Armenian Church in Cupertino, Rev. Fr. Hovel Ohanyan, Parish Priest of St. Vartan Armenian Church in Oakland, and Deacon Kevork Jamgochian.

The whole clergy knelt down at the entrance of the sanctuary where rugs were spread, and after chanting the hymn of Door Opening ceremony entered the sanctuary officially and the faithful followed the clergy into their own house, the house of God.

When the ceremony was over Fr. Asoghig invited the faithful to the dining room where was set lenten foods on the tables. The Armenian Community of Sacramento celebrated the first victory of St. James Armenian Church with foods, drinks, songs and remarks. Surpazan asked Fr. Asoghig to invite Rev. Fr. Datev and Rev. Fr. Hovel to give their words of congratulation on this happy occasion. Some Armenian songs were sang by Fr. Hovel and Fr. Asoghig and the faithful joined them happily.

His Eminence said in his remarks, “The message of the Gospel for tomorrow is to stay in the atmosphere of prayer and never loose heart, the same message fits in today’s life of St. James. They tried to get such a property for long-long years each one they decided to get had a negative side that didn’t allow them to buy it. But they did not loose their hope until they get this beautiful building.”

The gathering was closed with Surpazan’s prayer and the present people sang the Lord’s Prayer in Armenian.

97th Anniversary Genocide Memorial Luncheon

Dear Volunteers and Parishioners,

What a wonderful event we had on April 29, 2012!  Volunteers and Parishioners like you make it all possible.  We are sincerely grateful for all your work and your willingness to serve in making our event a success.

We are always blessed to see how our church family comes together as a body of believers to serve in the various ministries of the church-and all our activities are ministries!  It is a beautiful, living picture of what Paul described in his letter to the Ephesians when he said, “It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” (Ephesians 4:11-12)

Thank you again for all you do to build up the body of Christ here at St. James Armenian Apostolic Church!

May God continue to bless you in your work for Him!

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Fr. Asoghig Jamgochian

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24
